The hard part is collecting that data, analyzing it and turning it into a strategy, and that is where data-driven marketing comes in. This guide from Adtek explains what data-driven marketing is, how it works, what it can do for a business and where it tends to go wrong.

Where data-driven marketing came from

Data-driven marketing improves brand communication by basing it on what you know about consumers. With the right strategy, you can anticipate customers’ needs, wants and future behavior. In return, you can build a more personalized approach and sell more.

Social media and other technologies (such as digital cookies) let brands collect large amounts of data to understand their target customers better. But as people grow more concerned about online privacy in general, the overall approach to data-driven marketing is changing.

In 2022, agile marketers were rethinking their strategies in an effort to market precisely after COVID-19. McKinsey surveys in 2020 showed that the pandemic pushed many consumers to try new brands, new places to shop or new online shopping channels.

In just a few months, retail saw growth that had been expected to take 10 years. A shift this large in how target audiences behave created a need for data-driven marketing, for any organization that wanted to catch the growth opportunity and get a higher ROI and a stronger recovery. Companies that upgraded their marketing became better at generating revenue and built the flexibility they needed to future-proof their business.

What is data-driven marketing?

Data-driven is a term for using data to inform marketers so they can make decisions faster. Decisions no longer rest on personal experience; they rest on actual numbers. Data-driven work is now common in many fields, especially technology and business. Businesses that make decisions and plan strategy based on data reach their business goals faster and more effectively.

Data-driven marketing is a plan, a strategy, that uses consumer data as its foundation. That consumer data is collected in many ways, including interactions with the brand, artificial intelligence and third parties.

Consumer data is very useful to brands. It shows them buyers’ motivations, behavior and preferences. Since personalized, targeted marketing is the most likely to attract buyers, marketers collect and use that data to deliver the best possible experience.

How data-driven marketing works

Precision marketing only works with the right data. New models fed with old data can still produce inaccurate results. To capture insights, leaders in the field usually take a wide approach to data collection. They draw not only on behavioral trends and location-based insights but also on third-party analysis of businesses, customers and competitors to supplement their internal customer data. Companies starting down this path are finding the most value in combining research data from government sources with sales data and customer data from third-party providers in their models. Companies that broaden data collection in these ways can pinpoint where rising demand and new customers are coming from, and can see which existing customers have increased their spending and where lost customers have gone.

For example, before updating its modeling approach, one retail chain could only say how many customers it had gained or lost. The company then decided to bring in mobile phone data to scan for changes in competitors’ net traffic. The analysis showed that many of the customers it had won during the pandemic came from professional, higher-priced stores, while the customers it was losing were going to cheaper, value-oriented ones. Based on this information, the retailer changed its onboarding and churn-prevention campaigns. It sent emails promoting more premium products to customers who had switched from specialty stores, while offering low-priced products to value-focused customers who were at risk of leaving.

In another example, a business services provider tapped new third-party data sources to identify key moments in the life cycle of small businesses. In one such effort, the provider pulled together data sources that showed, with a lag of just one day, when new companies were being formed during the uncertainty of COVID-19. Its sales staff then reached out right away with products and messages suited to the needs of newly founded companies, such as system tools. These combined efforts raised sales productivity by more than 25%.

Strong data also lets companies build better insight into competitors. For example, by comparing third-party data on assortment, sales and promotions with their own numbers, marketers can judge the strength of different value propositions and see which factors appeal to which customer groups. They can then give each of those groups the right messages, content and offers.

The added uncertainty of the new normal requires marketers to test better and respond faster. A more agile operating model is important, but it is also increasingly necessary to work with technology that learns at scale. That means building technical capabilities that can read and interpret signals of consumer intent and how consumers respond to marketing messages, then feed those signals back into the marketing engine to learn what works and what does not.

Marketers who are really pushing the limits use artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor campaigns and assess responses at a granular level, to learn which elements work and which do not, or which segments customers come from, at what times and through which channels, and then adjust strategy based on those insights. Getting specific insights like these with standard analytics can take days of sorting through marketing activity. AI-assisted monitoring can do it in minutes, sometimes seconds.

For example, one consumer services company launched retention campaigns as communities came out of lockdown. Conventional analytics could only evaluate the campaigns as a whole and found them moderately effective. The company then tested a new AI tool that could look deep enough to evaluate responses at the level of core-based statistical areas (CBSAs), and this showed the campaign was highly effective in specific niches with similar economic and epidemiological profiles. (CBSAs are statistical regions used in the United States, each built around a city and the surrounding areas tied to it by commuting.) The AI tool identified how the campaign’s performance patterns were developing, which let marketers configure the system so that AI-based analytics data fed directly into the campaign’s targeting logic every night. This campaign and others like it were a key part of a broader data-driven marketing program that helped the company raise its trial rate fivefold.

3 trends that shaped data-driven marketing in 2022

Balancing privacy and personalization

Notably, brands are shifting their data collection strategy from understanding customers better to understanding them well enough.

Because of growing global concern about data privacy, forward-thinking brands are looking for ways to collect only the consumer information they need for specific purposes. Widespread and growing frustration with big tech companies such as Facebook shows how collecting more data than necessary can breed anger and distrust.

If you need to collect sensitive information about customers, ask for permission and explain up front how you plan to use it.

More emphasis on behavioral data

Behavioral data captures how customers interact with a product or service. Common sources of behavioral data include websites, mobile apps, help desks and chatbots.

This type of data is usually created and stored as “events”, meaning an action taken by an individual user.

The rise in interest in behavioral data has been driven by changes in the privacy environment and by renewed interest in tools such as Google Analytics or Matomo. Behavioral analytics can improve conversion, engagement and retention.

As this trend takes hold, marketers are now looking to dig deeper, rather than wider, when they collect data.

More data tools call for better integration

The range of new data tools for marketers keeps growing, and many companies use different platforms and solutions for different areas of the business. Data tools can measure key metrics such as website traffic, pageviews and click-through rate (CTR) to show what works best for the brand.

With so many data solutions in use, though, better integration is needed so data can flow freely between systems and overall complexity goes down.

All of these trends point to a move away from collecting as much data as possible toward a more strategic, surgical approach. Start by deciding exactly what your brand needs to know about its customers. Then think about the best way to collect that information without crossing any lines.

Benefits of data-driven marketing for businesses

Lower marketing costs

A data-driven strategy aims for quality of leads rather than sheer quantity. Because the business uses the right marketing channels to target its ideal customers directly, it gets higher conversion rates. Marketers who know their current customers well can spend half as much as a traditional campaign and still get better results.

Data-driven marketing solves a long-running struggle for marketers: figuring out where budget is being wasted and reallocating it to get more out of every dollar. With more detailed, higher-quality data, marketers can combine aggregate data and the insights from attribution models into one overall measurement, known as unified marketing measurement, or UMM.

Using attribution models, marketers evaluate the customer journey, examining the many touchpoints along the marketing funnel to get a full view of the purchase path for each target segment. Once the marketing team has identified what moves new customers into a new channel, it can allocate marketing spend where it fits best.

New technical methods

Prospects face plenty of choice, and if a marketing message does not fit them, they will simply go elsewhere. Using sophisticated data and analytics can improve the customer’s experience with a brand, because the organization understands better what customers want and can then personalize the customer journey. In essence, it can replace blanket campaigns with relevant ones.

Data-driven marketing strategies make precise audience segmentation possible, personalize the experience and raise engagement among new customers. Specific knowledge of how different audience groups behave makes it possible to upsell based on their interests and to use the right mix of channels for each demographic.

Collecting accurate, detailed data can also give you a better picture of customer satisfaction after the sale. Most companies run surveys to support product and service improvements. Customer experience analysis can reveal a great deal about target customers and how to serve them better. In practice, many businesses use customer satisfaction scores (CSAT, NPS) to analyze and improve the customer experience. CSAT asks how satisfied a customer was with a specific purchase or interaction. NPS asks how likely they are to recommend the brand to someone else.

Planning ahead

More actionable consumer data leads to focused, sharp insights. When data-driven marketers understand customers at the individual level, they can predict how customers will respond to different campaigns and make strategic decisions about delivering personalized messages that give the best possible experience.

Data-driven marketing tools make personalization a smooth, simple process. If you know your target audience is young mothers, for instance, you probably will not create marketing messages aimed at women without children. Decisions about marketing campaigns can also be tracked quickly, so organizations can drop what is not working and optimize what is.

A solid set of consumer data greatly reduces the risk of failure, because the budget spent on marketing campaigns and product development is matched to user needs and expectations from the start. Sales data can also reveal untapped cross-selling opportunities across the sales funnel that may have been missed before.

Finding the right patterns

Advertising has drawn on patterns in consumer behavior since it began, though those patterns can be harder to spot today. Pinpointing the behavioral indicators that stand out requires data that is constantly refreshed from a combination of sources at a granular level. In some cases, this is similar to closely studying individual city neighborhoods, or comparing the buying habits of one upscale suburb with those of the affluent areas next to it.

For example, with the right customer data, retailers can assess which products different segments are likely to buy for Thanksgiving and adjust their marketing messages to increase sales. Strong data also gives companies better insight into competitors. Comparing third-party data, such as sales and promotions, with their own metrics helps them evaluate and improve what they offer.

As another example, an algorithm might learn that consumers who engage in showrooming tend to buy the products they looked at later, at a lower price online. Indicators like this can help businesses trigger the right offers to turn a “showrooming customer” into a buyer while they are still in the store, which lets marketers spend on more profitable segments.

A quick explanation of showrooming: it means visiting retail stores to look at merchandise before buying it online at a lower price. This consumer behavior is typical for higher-priced goods.

Building connections

An organization’s marketing goals determine how it uses data to connect sales, customer behavior and effective channel use. When evaluating marketing goals, there is often overlap between the chosen KPIs and the data needed to make better decisions. A modern data stack (customer relationship management software) can capture key insights across touchpoints better than integrating data by hand, which has a higher error rate.

Data-driven marketing is an invaluable tool for developing marketing strategy. For example, the customer data you collect may show that most of your target market shops on smartphones. That can inform mobile strategies such as mobile paid ads. Building connections like these has become important for organizations that want to keep relationships with, and stay relevant to, both new and loyal customers.

For this reason, using a suitable customer relationship management platform that centralizes data is very important to stop information and teams from working in silos. From strategists to creators to salespeople, a good marketing team works as one system, and everyone needs to collaborate to bring in leads and improve revenue. Building connections around consumer behavior through data and teamwork is key to success.

A better customer experience

Data-driven marketing focuses on using in-depth consumer profiles to improve the customer experience. That matters for success, because a poor website experience sends many customers to buy somewhere else.

The extra personalization that data-driven marketing makes possible builds trust between consumers and brands and creates a positive customer experience. Personalizing the experience can produce real results: according to McKinsey, personalization typically lifts revenue by 10% to 15% (McKinsey, 2021).

Better allocation to make the most of spend

A common challenge for marketers is working out where their ad budget is being wasted. Data-driven marketing, guided by analytics tools, lets marketing teams discover which part of the ad budget has the biggest impact on conversions or brand awareness. This is done by evaluating the customer journey with attribution models such as unified marketing measurement (UMM). UMM looks at multi-touch attribution and media mix modeling together to give a full view of the purchase path. Organizations can then see what moves prospects and customers down the funnel and allocate budget accordingly.

Producing relevant content

Evaluating consumer data gives marketing teams insight into the kinds of ads, images, copy and content your target audience wants to engage with. Delivering the right message, one that serves the person’s own interests and creates value at the right moment, is essential to connecting with consumers. Unfortunately, marketers struggle to match content to their audience, for example:

A 2016 TrackMaven study found that the number of brand blog posts rose 800% over five years, while average shares per post fell 89% (AMA, November 2016). That points to a disconnect between what brands are saying and what users find valuable.

According to a 2013 survey by Janrain and Harris Interactive in the US, 74% of consumers get frustrated when they see ads and promotions that have nothing to do with their interests (Retail Dive, August 2013).

By digging deeper into your analytics, you can find which messages and pieces of content resonate with your audience. That can lead to better product decisions and help you understand your customers.

Better decisions

Adopting data-driven marketing helps teams make better-informed decisions: in a 2017 survey by Google and Econsultancy, nearly two-thirds of leading marketers said data-based decisions are better than decisions based on gut instinct (Think with Google, June 2017). Data analysis lets marketers make choices based on real-world use cases rather than theory. Data-driven marketing does not, however, reduce the emotional factors that can lead to a consumer’s purchase decision. Marketing teams have to evaluate data within a framework that considers both rational and emotional decision-making, so the two are properly balanced in their campaigns.

Challenges of data-driven marketing

Data privacy laws keep changing

Data privacy laws have changed a great deal over the years. Governments around the world are changing regulations and strategies to protect consumers from crime, misuse of information and harm to their privacy. The biggest risk in collecting customer data and using it for marketing lies in privacy law.

As long as you know these laws and follow the changes, creating a data-driven strategy should not be a problem.

Failing to follow these laws can be expensive for a business and can even lead to a lawsuit or a ban on using the website. So you need to learn how to adapt to these regulations and make sure you protect customers when you use their data.

Do not focus only on the numbers

Brands that focus only on data-driven strategies end up focusing on numbers instead of behavior. This information usually comes in the form of figures and reports, especially if you use AI to collect it.

If you treat customer data as numbers and lose sight of the people who provided it, the only thing your marketing strategy can produce is a simple, impersonal tool that may bring people to the brand but will not make them care about it.

Data is not always accurate

There are many ways to collect consumer data. You can use AI or software solutions, monitor communication between customers and the business, look at past orders and behavior, run surveys, and more. Rather than trusting this data blindly, though, you need to study it more carefully and consider bias. People do not always search for the right keywords or fill in surveys honestly. Leaning heavily on consumer data only works if you have a great deal of information and are sure you can deliver exactly what customers need.

Collecting too much information

Consumers want personalized experiences, but they do not want organizations to know everything about them. Even when they decide to share personal information, they want to know how it will be used for their benefit. Consumers react strongly on data transparency: a 2020 McKinsey survey of 1,000 North American consumers found that 71% would stop doing business with a company that gave away their sensitive data without permission (McKinsey, 2020).

When targeting customers with messaging or personalization tactics, companies should consider how they are delivering value to consumers. Making it easier for consumers to buy, for example, works better than showing customers how much you know about them. Marketing teams must also be transparent about how data is collected and used, and let consumers opt out of data collection, as required by Vietnam’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 91/2025/QH15 (in effect since January 1, 2026) and by GDPR and the CCPA in international markets.

Poor data quality

To run a plan guided by data, you need the right data processes. They are what make sure your data-driven decisions and strategies are high quality and reflect customer needs. If the data does not meet standards such as timeliness, accuracy, completeness and representativeness, you risk making data-driven decisions that give little visibility into what customers actually need. In fact, nearly half of newly created data records have at least one critical error, and an HBR study could rate only 3% of data quality scores as acceptable, even by a loose standard. With that in mind, before starting on data-driven tactics, marketing teams must make sure they have data quality policies and standards in place.

Extracting the right information

Many companies are investing in big data (often spending millions of US dollars) but cannot produce any tangible return on that investment. If you are collecting large volumes of data, but not the right data, it will do little to inform your marketing strategy. Many marketing leaders see data-driven marketing as a strategic priority, yet quite a few businesses have still not gained a clear advantage from the investment.

To get the most from their data, companies need the right people, policies and infrastructure. That means data scientists who can draw insights from large data sets, processes that keep data clean, and the right software partners to organize, correlate and process large volumes of data. It comes down to having staff with the right skills and software with the features to help them make good decisions.

Data-driven marketing is complex

Carrying out a data-driven marketing strategy takes time and resources, because marketing teams must put the right policies and controls in place. Marketing teams often find the process complicated, but the eventual return is worth it.

Even if your company has enough talent and the right technology, it can still be hard to know where to start. Marketing teams need to have a detailed plan ready before they begin, or partner with a third-party team that can guide marketers in getting the most out of their data.

How data-driven marketing affects a business

Committing to data-driven marketing will grow revenue. When it is done well, it increases leads and conversions, for the simple reason that an organization holding the right consumer data can market its products and services precisely and get good results. But a data-driven approach is not a plug-and-play solution. It is a long-term way of getting achievable results, and it gives an organization a way of operating that fits.

So beyond better profits, how does data-driven marketing really affect day-to-day business? For a start, it means sharing customer data with the relevant staff (within compliance rules). Knowledge of data is power; giving teams access to the same information strengthens collaboration and keeps everyone aligned with current marketing activities and goals.

Second, organizations may need to upgrade or invest in marketing tools such as Google Analytics, CRM software and content calendars to help collect relevant data and automate processes. Investing in AI helps remove friction and conflicts between channels.

Data does not lie. At a deeper level, the expectation gap keeps widening as businesses struggle to keep up with consumers who are better informed, more connected and more knowledgeable. This shift of power between businesses and consumers has disrupted the traditional customer journey. A Deloitte report found that “consumers look for inspiration by exploring other consumers’ social media profiles, rather than expecting brands to inspire them through traditional advertising”.

Consumer engagement has to go beyond marketing. Companies must really listen to consumers, inspire them and co-create with them. Customer data across industries keeps pointing to themes around sustainability and easing consumer skepticism. More than ever, businesses are expected to have a purpose and to be aware of their role and responsibilities in society.

Data-driven marketing examples

According to Google research, leading marketers are far more likely to trust data-based decisions than decisions based on gut feeling and experience. A strong data-driven marketing strategy and proprietary infrastructure can bring outstanding success. Here is how it plays out in practice:

#1 Ad targeting

Say you run a pet grooming service and want to advertise to busy families within a 5-mile radius of your business. Data-driven advertising makes that entirely possible. Ad targeting records are informed by, and store information as, cookies when prospects visit the company’s website.

The data collected includes the user’s location, time spent on the site, pages viewed and online searches. With this information, marketers can gauge how interested a prospect is in a specific service or product and serve ads in formats such as the following to catch the consumer’s interest:

Programmatic ad buying

TV ads, or YouTube ads and Instagram

Retargeting

Paid search results

Email marketing

Whatever the ad type, the goal is to send the right message to the right consumer at the right time, and that is only possible with the detailed consumer insight that data-driven marketing provides.

#2 Personalized customer experiences

In an oversaturated online market where consumers are overwhelmed by the “tyranny of choice”, the only way to win their attention is to appeal directly to their interests. Using demographic data to understand the target market’s location, past interactions, online engagement and spending habits helps you build personalized campaigns that resonate with customers. Most consumers welcome personalized experiences: in a 2017 Epsilon survey, 80% of respondents said they are more likely to buy when a business offers a personalized experience (Epsilon, January 2018). Personalized experiences make customers feel valued, which in the end lifts conversions and sales.

A data-driven approach helps segment audiences so you can create personalized messages for specific customer groups.

#3 Better sales teams

Using data in sales raises productivity, because teams only pursue the most promising leads. A data-driven sales approach means collecting and using specific metrics to inform every sales decision. That covers everything from prospecting to discounts and pricing. Analytics tools can show where leads come from, why sales reps contact them and how they contact them.

Data on how one product or service performs compared with another, which customer interactions lead to a purchase, and who is actually buying compared with the business’s intended audience gives you the insight to make informed decisions about positioning, pricing and target personas.

Sales teams can also track the sales cycle for a specific prospect and see which competitors the business is losing customers to. Collecting demographic and psychographic information from each prospect further supports building customer profiles or buyer personas.

#4 Building an ideal customer profile

A data-driven profile uses the data already collected to understand the target audience better, without biased assumptions or wishful thinking clouding marketing decisions. Real-time website analytics, digital customer feedback services and social media insights help businesses build and update customer profiles quickly. Combining first-party and third-party data gives a 360-degree view of a brand’s customers.

Knowing which devices are used at each stage of the customer journey, which channels consumers post content on, what they are talking about, how they research products and their general attitude gives a deeper understanding of purchase motivations and behavior. Advanced persona modeling with artificial intelligence replaces guesswork with targeted marketing that is actually precise.

A Deloitte white paper further highlights how effective data-driven marketing can be. An individual’s online behavior can be used to classify consumers further. For example, customers who visit a “70% off” page on a website can be placed in a “brand bargain hunters” group and shown products that match their price range.

#5 Content optimization

Audience segmentation can also be used to personalize the website experience for specific customers. Say a sporting goods store has a customer base made up of teenagers, young professionals, athletes, and older men and women who play a range of sports. In this case, the marketer would not show children’s training shoes to older adults, because the product is irrelevant to them.

Target market data can therefore help businesses customize their website in real time based on who is visiting. For example, a company might identify a customer as a trail runner through agreements with third-party data providers. When that person arrives on the site, the marketer can show popular trail running products.

Or, if a user clicks on yoga gear, the site can show them offers on yoga products the next time they visit the online store. What makes data-driven marketing powerful is the ability to retarget those yoga products elsewhere on the web, that is, on social media, in email and on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Every time a user visits the website or a landing page, they leave more information about their interests and intent, and that information can be stored in a customer relationship management platform. This supports customer journey mapping, which improves experience management and the chances of success. Brands that predict customer needs, market challenges and new opportunities faster and more accurately gain a competitive edge.

The future of data-driven marketing

Saving to invest in technology

While some companies simply cut budgets and pulled back across the board, others found it more profitable to reduce spending in areas that were not working and reallocate the savings. In some cases, putting 10% to 20% of the overall budget into analytics can pay off more. This requires a thorough but fast reassessment of all marketing spend to see how the COVID-19 environment has affected ROI. Event sponsorships, traditional TV advertising and programmatic display based on outdated terms are just a few areas where marketing performance may have changed significantly. For example, one clothing retailer found that the effectiveness of paid search dropped sharply during the crisis, while social media activity became far more effective. Marketing leaders can free up funds for additional investment by reusing and repositioning existing assets. The savings can then be redeployed to fund data-driven growth programs.

Agile marketing, delivered remotely

Flexible, agile ways of working let marketing teams test consumer behavior and respond quickly to change. Agile teams were traditionally thought to work best in the same location, but the hardships of the pandemic required the approach to re-emerge in remote form. Leading companies are turning physical team rooms into virtual ones, creating extra touchpoints to support agile protocols (such as video sprint check-ins) and using collaboration tools. The best companies have gone a step further by bringing vendor teams into their remote operations, including working with IT to create shared tools and compatible guidelines that account for vendors’ different technologies.

Companies on the right track are showing impressive results. For example, a North American telecom company set up a virtual team room with an online workspace and a digital scrum board to manage tasks and performance. Sprint planning was done through continuous rounds of voting, with each vote sparking lively debate about the value of each test idea. The team also held its ceremonies through video stand-ups. (In agile terms, a sprint is a short, fixed work cycle, and a stand-up is a brief daily meeting where each person says what they did, what they will do next and what is blocking them.) The virtual room not only improved test results but also helped the team launch tests three times faster than its traditional in-person setup.

Budgeting and operating practices need continuous review to support this remote agile model. Instead of quarterly or half-yearly planning sessions, marketing leaders should review performance monthly to make sure funding and resources line up with the biggest opportunities.

How to prepare your business for data-driven marketing

Use many different data sources to inform your strategy

How often have you searched for a product online and then been targeted with ads for related options all over the internet? That is data-driven marketing at work: companies use behavior and preferences to find you and offer you the solution you are looking for.

This can only work for your business if you collect enough information to make informed decisions. There are many ways and many places to get this data. Ideally, you should gather it all in one place, such as a central location like a CRM. If you do, you can easily analyze the data and make decisions about your strategy based on all of the information.

But how do you collect this information in the first place?

Start with CRM data. Many businesses use CRM platforms to gain customer insights. Tools such as Salesforce collect data on customer interactions across every channel the brand uses, store it in one place and help segment and organize the information so the business can make the best possible decisions.

Next comes website analytics data, which you can collect with tools such as Google Analytics. This simple but widely used web tool gives you useful information about consumers and how they interact with your website.

Beyond data on website activity and usage, you can also collect data on how people use your mobile app. If you have an app, you can use analytics tools to see how users spend time in it and which features they like best. You can then use all of this data to personalize and improve their experience.

And of course, do not forget social media advertising and its ability to track and use behavioral data, along with traditional methods such as surveys that you can run to collect data from your customers.

Segment your data before you use it

All the information in your hands can be used to improve the user experience and promote your brand. But data cannot do anything for you if you do not know how to use it or do not organize it well.

That is why the second key step is to segment your data. The data you collect is only an opportunity if you find the right way to use it in your marketing.

There are many ways to segment data, just as there are many ways to segment an audience. The right one depends on your marketing goals.

If you want to offer a new or improved product, you need data on customers’ past purchases, their pain points, their communication with your company and industry trends.

If you want more traffic, you need analytics data on how many people visited the page, when they visited, which pages they visited, what actions they took, any surveys you have run about the page, and so on.

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to use the data you have collected. What matters is narrowing down how you can use it to seize those opportunities.

Personalize the customer experience based on interactions

Personalization is the best growth opportunity you have today. People love brands that offer personalized experiences. With so much competition, the only way to stand out using data is to make your strategy more personal.

Start with your website and with content that matches your social media presence: you can use data to tailor the customer experience and make your brand recognizable to your target audience.

You already know what people say on the phone or in live chat when they talk to your agents. You know how they comment on your social media posts, how they use your website and what has caused them trouble.

That gives you a unique chance to improve your website’s design and navigation, use data to adjust and improve your content across platforms, and personalize their experience with smoother communication and better service.

Time to put your data to work for your brand

Collecting data takes a lot of time and effort. Fortunately, there are tools and methods to help you do it. That is the first step of a great marketing plan.
